Position Overview:
As a Systems Engineer you will be a key member of an Enterprise team whose primary responsibilities include the design and implementation of Linux and virtualization infrastructure technologies. You will provide expertise and technical leadership while collaborating with project managers, engineers, SMEs, operations teams, customers, and all levels of management to execute on strategic and tactical goals. The core objective of the Global Infrastructure Services (GIS) organization, of which you will be a part, is to support the delivery of broader Global Technology Operations (GTO) services by aligning customer and business requirements with fit-for-purpose solutions that work reliably, scale, are administratively efficient, and support global transparency and fulfillment-automation objectives.
Responsibilities:
Lead the translation of Expedia’s business vision and strategy into an effective public and private cloud offering
Partner with business and technical teams to design, deliver and maintain highly available, well-performing and cost effective systems.
Serve as a Tier 4 escalation point for our Operations and Business teams, providing outstanding customer service through timely, high quality incident resolution
Write and contribute to project plans, author engineering level documentation, and develop detailed test plans
Communicate clearly and effectively with our business customers, suppliers and partners.
Travel as required on a limited basis
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience supporting virtualization technology in a mission-critical enterprise environment
Deep technical expertise with hypervisor systems and environments – VMware vSphere/vCenter, Xen/XenServer or KVM on CentOS
Practical understanding of and experience with enterprise architecture concepts.
An ability to learn new technologies and adopt new tools.
Experience with Amazon AWS/Openstack is a plus, but not required.
Work Experience and Education Guidelines:
BS in Computer Science/ Engineering or equivalent education and experience required
Experience working in a complex and large-scale software environment supporting virtualization and platform technology
Core Competencies:
Strong customer service focus, coupled with a proven ability to positively interact with customers of all levels within the organization.
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, supported by excellent written and oral communication
Exhibit a strong work ethic and technical leadership
