Position Description

Position Overview:

Expedia is seeking an experienced IT professional with a background in Storage Engineering. The Storage Engineer will primarily focus on activities related to applying storage technologies in support of a wide array of backup and archival use cases within the company. The Storage Engineer will participate in developing road maps, standards and best practices while also auditing existing applications ensuring optimum performance, availability and sustaining compliance with policies, procedures, and guidelines. The qualified candidate will work alongside a team of highly technical staff focused on engineering database and storage solutions. The Storage Engineer must possess work experience with large-scale web-commerce environments where data life cycle management is fundamental to operations and compliance. Responsibilities:

- Research, evaluate and recommend storage, backup and archival solutions and administration tools.

- Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of best practices, use cases, SLA expectations along with installation, configuration, monitoring and administration specifications.

- Provide Level 3 technical support for deploying and sustaining systems in lab and production environments.

- Participate in developing, evangelizing, implementing and sustaining policies, standards, regulatory compliance and strategic initiatives.

- Research and recommend enhancements for improving performance, reliability and recovery of data from existing solutions.

- Assist consumers of storage services in designing, modeling and validating best fit technologies supporting their requirements.

- Provide strategic influence across groups, projects and products emphasizing business continuity, availability, scalability, manageability, security and cost-effectiveness of storage technologies.

- Routinely research availability of patches, new releases, additional functionality and EOL notifications ensuring compliance of

storage technologies with policies, standards and guidelines.

- Educate and mentor peers via written and verbal communications.


Qualifications:

- Excellent knowledge of storage archival & backup technologies and management solutions.

- Very good knowledge of storage technologies supporting structured and unstructured data.

- Very good knowledge of operating web-commerce platforms.

Experience (Minimum):

- Senior-Career Storage Administrator.

- 5+ years experience.

Experience (Preferred):

- Specialization engineering &/or administering backup and archival solutions supporting web-commerce platforms.

- SCSP: SNIA Certified Professional

- SCSE: SNIA Certified Storage Engineer

Education:

Four (4) year degree or equivalent experience.
