Position Description
General Responsibilities:
. Provide expert level, best in class Network Engineering for layers 1-4 of the OSI model
. Design and architect end-to-end network systems and solutions, and communicate the functionality and economics of the design to Senior Leadership
. Coordinate with vendors for the installation of required items, e.g. routers, switches, load balancers, monitoring and other network appliances
. Provide cost/benefit analysis of proposed engineering solutions
. Match current business needs and constraints with long term design strategy
. Interact and evaluate new technologies with Expedia's technology vendors for beta testing, design, and implementation of various solutions
. Provide and act as subject matter expert level post mortem analysis of production outages and revenue effecting events when necessary
. Provide project planning and input on cost and benefit analysis; conduct vendor comparisons; and lead and/or participate in project implementation
. Required to conduct independent network studies and performance analyses, and provide recommend changes
. Work as a lead on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors
. Interface frequently with cross-discipline support teams, e.g. Database, SAN, and Server to coordinate activities across groups in
order to achieve success and provide seamless network implementations
. Mentor others and may function in a lead capacity within department and represent department in workflow, escalation discussions with others, as necessary
Requirements:
. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
. 10+ years expert related experience, including 4 years in architectural or lead design role
. Architectural Engineer with substantial experience working on all phases of engineering, e.g. design, evaluation, testing, debugging and implementation
. Cisco expertise, experience, and related certifications, required CCIE or combination of CCNP/CCDP/CCVP and written CCIE
. Ability to obtain results by exercising good judgment, within broadly defined practices and policies, to select methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria
. Ability to work in a team environment, as well as work independently
. Recognized as group expert on specific features or components and shares this expertise with others
. Ability to look beyond the obvious to detect underlying problems and patterns
. Ability to skillfully navigate tough situations, both internally and externally
. Expert level skills with all or most; Cisco Nexus, Load Balancing, Wireless, VoIP, Network Tools, and Firewalls
. Expert level skills with DNS, DHCP, GSLB, and other e-commerce services.
