Position Description
Database Engineer
Position Overview:
Expedia is seeking a mid-career IT professional experienced with database engineering/administration. The role entails working with a team of highly technical staff focused on engineering database and storage solutions where performance and availability is fundamental to the livelihood of the company. This is an opportunity to work with the best IT talent and technologies in the world.
Responsibilities:
- Research, evaluate and recommend technologies, hosted services and monitoring/management tools.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of service design packages and SLA expectations.
- Participate in developing, evangelizing and implementing policies, standards and strategic initiatives.
- Assist in designing, modeling and validating a “best fit” matrix of database solutions.
- Provide strategic influence across the organization emphasizing business continuity, high availability, scalability, manageability and security.
- Ensure compliance of in use technologies with standards, policies and configuration guidelines.
- Provide Level 3 technical support as required.
- Mentor associates via written and verbal communications.
Qualifications:
- Substantial experience administering large scale, multi-tiered, multi-vendor database infrastructure.
- Advanced knowledge and direct on-hands experience with web-commerce data life cycle management.
- Advanced cognitive and analytical skills.
Experience (Minimum):
- Mid-Career Database Administrator.
- 5+ years experience.
Experience (Preferred):
- Engineering &/or administering database solutions supporting large scale web-commerce platforms.
- Certified Professional Microsoft’s MCTS and MCITP, Oracle's OCA, OCP and OCM or MySql's CMA, CMDEV and CMDBA.
Education:
Four (4) year degree or equivalent experience.
