Position Description
Platform and Virtualization Systems Engineer
Position Overview:
As a Systems Engineer you will be a key member of an Enterprise team whose primary responsibilities include the design and implementation of Linux platform infrastructure technologies. You will provide expertise and technical leadership while collaborating with project managers, engineers, SMEs, operations teams, customers, and all levels of management to execute on strategic and tactical goals. The core objective of the Global Infrastructure Services (GIS) organization, of which you will be a part, is to support the delivery of broader Global Technology Operations (GTO) services by aligning customer and business requirements with fit-for-purpose solutions that work reliably, scale, are administratively efficient, and support global transparency and fulfillment-automation objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with business and technical teams to design, deliver and maintain highly available, well-performing and cost effective infrastructure systems that enable the effective deployment, utilization and management of enterprise Linux
- Ensure compliance with Expedia’s environmental security and trustworthy computing policies. (PCI, SOX)
- Partner with business and technical teams to design, deliver and maintain highly available, well-performing and cost effective systems.
- Serve as a Tier 4 escalation point for Operations and Business teams, providing outstanding customer service and supporting operations teams on Problems and Incident resolution
- Write and contribute to project plans, author engineering level documentation, and develop detailed test plans
- Communicate clearly and effectively with our business customers, suppliers and partners.
- Travel as required on a limited basis
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of experience supporting Unix OS in a mission-critical enterprise environment (RHEL/CentOS preferred)
- Design and support experience managing all aspects of Linux OS lifecycle in a large enterprise including server build and deployment (Cobbler, KickStart), configuration management (Puppet), monitoring, patching and security.
- Advanced shell scripting experience (e.g. Bash) and strong experience with one or more languages (e.g. Perl, Python, Java)
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of IP Networking, web technologies and protocols. understanding of network and server security
- Design and administration experience with OpenLDAP and BIND DNS
- Able to present and communicate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- An ability to learn new technologies and adopt new tools.
Work Experience and Education Guidelines:
- BS in Computer Science/ Engineering or equivalent education and experience required
- Experience working in a complex and large-scale software environment supporting Unix OS and related tools.

- Strong customer service focus, coupled with a proven ability to positively interact with customers of all levels within the organization.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, supported by excellent written and oral communication
