Position Description
Position Overview:
Expedia is seeking an experienced IT professional with a background in Storage Engineering. The Storage Engineer will primarily focus on activities related to applying storage technologies in support of a wide array of backup and archival use cases within the company. The Storage Engineer will participate in developing road maps, standards and best practices while also auditing existing applications ensuring optimum performance, availability and sustaining compliance with policies, procedures, and guidelines. The qualified candidate will work alongside a team of highly technical staff focused on engineering database and storage solutions. The Storage Engineer must possess work experience with large-scale web-commerce environments where data life cycle management is fundamental to operations and compliance. Responsibilities:
- Research, evaluate and recommend storage products, hosted services and monitoring/management tools.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of service design packages, best practices, use cases and SLA expectations.
- Provide Level 3 technical support as required for installing, troubleshooting, upgrading, replacing or patching devices.
- Participate in developing, evangelizing and implementing policies, standards and strategic initiatives.
- Assist in designing, modeling and validating best fit storage & archival solutions.
- Provide strategic influence across the organization emphasizing business continuity, high availability, scalability, manageability and security.
- Research availability of patches, new releases and EOL notifications ensuring compliance of the technologies with standards, policies and configuration guidelines.
- Independently develop and sustain technical knowledge, certifications and skills.
- Multi-task effectively handling day-to-day assignments given minimal directions and supervision.
- Achieve a high standard of quality and excellence consistently across assignments.
- Translate highly technical information and jargon into easily consumed narratives that give a clear picture.
- Educate and mentor peers and associates via written and verbal communications.
Qualifications:
- Substantial experience engineering and administering large scale, multi-tiered, multi-vendor backup and archival storage infrastructure.
- Advanced knowledge and direct on-hands experience with data life cycle management (flow of data throughout its life cycle) in a web-commerce setting.
- Advanced knowledge of principles, concepts, and theories in own discipline, and extensive knowledge of web-commerce platforms and their goverance.
- Demonstrateed strategic application of storage technologies supporting organizational mission statements, goals, objectives and norms.
- Advanced analytical skills, sound judgment and creativity planning solutions.
- Worked collaboratively with individuals of highly diverse cultures in global and virtual environments.
Experience (Minimum):
- Mid-Career Storage Administrator.
- 5+ years experience.
Experience (Preferred):
- Specialization engineering &/or administering backup and archival solutions supporting web-commerce platforms.
- SCSP: SNIA Certified Professional
- SCSE: SNIA Certified Storage Engineer
Education:
Four (4) year degree or equivalent experience.
