Position Description

Network Engineer

Position Overview:

The Network Engineer is assigned to the Internet Services team. Primary responsibilities include supporting Firewall architecture and peripheral systems of the E-Commerce Production environment. They provide network implementation and operational support in a 24x7x365 networking environment. The work includes Firewall support, Load Balancing and Network Infrastructure data delivery systems for an international enterprise network. As a Network Engineer on our team, you work in an exciting, fast paced, dynamic environment that includes contact centers, e-commerce, data centers and wide area networks.

Responsibilities:

- Expertise in Cisco, Checkpoint and Palo Alto Firewalls.

- Expertise in Citrix Load Balancers.

- Proficiency in Network Tools such as HPNA, Solarwinds, Extrahop, Route Explorer, NetFlow, Wireshark and Infinistream.

- Cisco Nexus technologies including routing and switching experience for Layer 2 and Layer 3.

- Troubleshoot straightforward networking problems independently by investigating underlying problems.

- Evaluate, implement and monitor incoming network change requests

- Participate in peer review of new or modified LANs/WANs/VoIP strategy and advise on impact of proposed network changes

- Monitor and respond to network incidents, triage and resolve the problem

- Perform quarterly proactive network testing to ensure proper functioning and reliability of the network

- Provide input to cost/benefit analysis on intermediate projects.

- Interface with Network Implementation and Engineering as necessary to support on-going network activities

- Conduct network studies and performance analyses and recommend changes.

- May function in a lead capacity within department and represent department in workflow, escalation discussions with others.

- Called upon to ensure network documentation and network schematics are correct and up to date

- Work as a lead on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.

- Exercise good judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

- Act as Network lead in researching, identifying, analyzing, resolving problems, and implementing solutions and/or enhancements.

- Make recommendations based on problem research and analysis.

- Interface frequently with cross discipline support teams - Database, SAN, Server - to provide seamless network operations

- Develop and interpret network design and solutions to meet immediate and future business needs.


Qualifications:

- Displaying advanced understanding of hardware, software, and networking components of local, wide area, and TDM/IP-based telephony networks.

- Applying understanding of complex networks to develop sophisticated network configurations.

- Preparing documentation packages of procedures for sustaining, operating, and monitoring the network.

- Analyzing, redesigning, and documenting (work flows) architectures for network applications.

- Displaying advanced understanding of network management systems and utilities.

- Identifying, determining cause of, and correcting voice and data network performance degradation.

- Identifying potential voice/data network security risks and recommending plan to address or eliminate risks.

- Addressing and solving “multi-layer” network problems.

- Knowledge of MPLS, IP, routing protocols, Voice over IP (VoIP), SIP/SIP-T.

- Familiar with circuits (DSx, OCx, Ethernet, SONET facilities.

- Familiar with Cisco Nexus, routers, Ethernet switches, load balancing devices, sniffers, network tools, VoIP, TDM PBX systems.

Work Experience and Education Guidelines:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated IT work experience with Production Management experience preferred

- 6 or more years related experience required.

- 4-6 years in an IT functional role.

- Cisco CCNA,CCNP.
